Answers for questions 65,66,69,70

65. You need to decide where to put some brackets in the question. Remember that the first order of operations are the brackets.

I am going to rewrite 3 squared as 3x3 as I cannot make the small 2 on this blog.

(-1) x (-7) + (+3)x(+3)
Well lets first calculate 3x3

(-1) x (-7) + (+9). Now we need to get an answer of -2. If I look at this equation I can see that -7 + +9 gives me +2 which is the opposite of -2. I can also see that multiplying anything by -1 gives me its opposite. So

(-1) x ((-7) + (+9)) =
(-1) x (+2)= -2
Which is the answer that we wanted.

#66. We need to once again get an answer of -2. I will write 4 sqaured as 4x4

(+4) x (+4) - (+10) ÷ (+2) - (+5)=
well 4x4 = 16 so
(+16) - (+10) ÷ (+2) - (+5). I am just going to try doing the equation from left to write and ignore the order of operations.

(+16) - (+10) ÷ (+2) - (+5) = Rewrite the equation as we cannot subtract
(+16) + (-10) ÷ (+2) + (-5) =
(+16) + (-10) = +6 so
(+6) ÷ (+2) + (-5) = and 6÷2 = 3 so
(+3) + (-5) = -2. So our answer is to put brackets around the 4 squared and -10 as we want to do this part first.

#69.I will figure out the rating for each player first. Their rating is based upon Goals scored - Goals against.

Fragnito +38 - +42 = -4
Chan +59 - +41 = +18
George +26 - +24 = +2
Petty = +34 - +55 = -21
Lloyd = +45 - +51 = -6
The rankings go from best to worst, or the largest postive number to the largest negative number, which is +18, +2, -4, -6, -21

#70. To find the average of the temperatures you need to add all of the temperatures together and then devide by the number of cities.
So -24 + -22 + -24 + -20 + -35 + -36 + -14 = -175 total temperature ÷ 7 cities =

-175 ÷ 7 = -25
