### Assignment Due Thursday March 16

This blog will require you to do a little bit of research on the internet or in a book.

Question #1: I need for you to tell me "What is the definition of a polygon"

Definition: A closed figure that is composed of a FINITE numbre of line segments. It is derived from the greek words "poly" meaning many and "gonia" meaning angle.

Question #2: Is a Circle a polygon?

Answer: No since a circle cannot be constructed by a finite amount of line segments, instead it is a infinite amount of points in a circular path.

Question #3: You need to tell me what the names of polygons with the following sides are.

3 sided = Triangle

4 sided = (remember I did not say that all 4 sides are equal) Quadrilateral

5 sided = pentagon

6 sided = hexagon

8 sided = octagon

10 sided = decagon

Leave your answers as a COMMENT to this post. If you leave the answers on your own blog site you will not receive any credit for this assignment.

Have a great weekend eveyone!

Question #1: I need for you to tell me "What is the definition of a polygon"

ANSWER: Polygons are many-sided figures, with sides that are line segments. The word polygon means many angles (Poly means many , gon means angle) More precisely, a polygon is a 2 dimensioanl object with 3 or more sides. Polygons are named according to the number of sides and angles they have. The most familiar polygons are the triangle, the rectangle, and the square. A regular polygon is one that has equal sides. Polygons also have diagonals, which are segments that join two vertices and are not sides. Polygons are closed figures with straight edges of three or more edges or sides.

Question #2: Is a Circle a polygon?

ANSWER: A figure or shape is not considered a polygon if it has rounded sides or if its sides intersects at any place other than at the ends of each side. Therefore a circle is not a polygon is not a polygon.

Question #3: You need to tell me what the names of polygons with the following sides are.

ANSWER:

3 sided = Triangle

4 sided = Quadrilateral

5 sided = Pentagon

6 sided = Hexagon

8 sided = Octagon

10 sided = Decagon

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!!!

Polygon is a closed plane figure for which all sides are line segments. The name of a polygon describes the number of sides. A polygon which has all sides mutually congruent and all angles mutually congruent is called a regular polygon.

The word "polygon" derives from the Greek words poly (many) and gonu (knee). So a polygon is a thing with many knees!

Circle is not a polygon because it has no sides.

A polygon with 3 sides is TRIANGLE

A polygon with 4 sides is QUADRILATERAL

A polygon with 5 sides is PENTAGON

A polygon with 6 sides is HEXAGON

A polygon with 8 sides is OCTAGON

A polygon with 10 sides is DECAGON
